Passion Play

First Parish's production of "A Passion for the Christ" takes place on a Saturday night in Jerusalem. Jesus is in the tomb. The streets are quiet and reactions are mixed. Bartholomew, one of Jesus' disciples, invites all to witness the reactions of Jesus' closest followers and his strongest opponents. And there the drama begins.

Costumed actors playing the roles of some of the people of the Bible who surrounded Jesus during his last days on earth will provide a new and intimate look at how Jesus' controversial death affected them personally. Touching and poignant, shocking and heartbreaking - these testimonies offer glimpses into private rooms and private thoughts.

Director and script writer, Pamela Abkarian, talked recently about scenes from the production saying, "In one scene, Disciple John comforts Mother Mary as she remembers Jesus' last moments on the cross. You will hear from Mary Magdalene, Peter, Martha and Lazarus. In another scene, three disciples who huddle in the Upper Room the night after Jesus' crucifixion provide a glimpse into the hearts of grief stricken friends. And there is so much more."

Lights and live music will enhance this powerful drama. Following "A Passion for the Christ" communion is offered to those who wish to stay and partake. Families and individuals of all church affiliations are invited to attend, to hear, and to contemplate these moving remembrances and powerful insights.

"A Passion for the Christ" is presented on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday every year. For more information, you can email, or call the church office at 781-245-1539.
