Evil....Why?
When the fifth person came to ask me if I'd read The Shack, I decided to read it. Then others asked if we were planning a class to discuss it on Wonderful Wednesdays. We are in our fourth week and the 27 interested class members had to be divided into two groups. (Thanks, Pam, for being the second group leader.)
The book makes you think and answers several big questions: for instance, "What's up with the trinity?" and "Why is there evil in our world?" These two issues, along with others, are rehashed every Wednesday with some progress on both fronts, I think.
I came across Rick Warren's response to Question #2 and thought I'd share it.
"The answer lies in both our greatest blessing and our worst curse: our capacity to make choices. Made in God's image, we have been given a free will-the freedom to decide how we will act and the ability to make moral choices. This gift of freedom is also the source of so much pain in our world. People often make self-centered and evil choices. Whenever that happens, people get hurt
"The truth is, we all choose between good and evil every day; we do harm and hurt others with our selfish decisions and actions.
